Our cookie policy and how we use them

Last updated: 28 August 2026

The short version

We use no tracking cookies, no advertising cookies, and nothing that follows you from site to site. Signed out, metta.cards sets exactly one cookie, and it only remembers which language you are reading in. We do count page views, but the service that counts them was set up to store nothing on your device at all — no cookie, no local storage, nothing to clear. That is why you are not being asked to accept anything.

What we actually store

Cookies

  • NEXT_LOCALE — remembers your language. Set on every visit, expires when you close your browser, and is not used to identify you.
  • A sign-in session cookie — set only if you create an account and sign in. It is what keeps you signed in. Signing out removes it. If you never sign in, it is never set.

Local storage — kept on your device, never sent to us:

  • metta.deck.v2 — a copy of the deck, so cards open instantly and keep working offline. It holds card text and image references, and nothing about you.
  • metta.install.v1 — the date you first visited, and whether you have dismissed the offer to install the app. It is what stops that offer appearing more than it should. It holds nothing else.

What we do not use

  • No analytics cookies. Page views are counted, but by a service configured to keep nothing in your browser — which is why there is no analytics row in the list above.
  • No advertising or advertising networks.
  • No social media pixels or share trackers.
  • No cross-site or third-party tracking cookies.

Two other hosts your browser contacts: metta.pub, our own publishing site, which serves the card artwork; and PostHog in the European Union, which receives the page views. Neither sets a cookie on metta.cards. Our privacy policy says what PostHog receives.

Clearing them

Every browser lets you clear cookies and site data, usually under Privacy or Settings. Clearing them removes the language cookie, the deck copy and — if you have one — your sign-in session, so the deck will be downloaded again next time and you will need to sign in again. Nothing else is affected.

Changes

If we ever add a cookie, it will be listed here and the date at the top of this page will change. Questions: support@metta.cards. See also our privacy policy.
